We are seeking a Creative Director to champion bringing our new brand, Pendulum to life.  This role is well-suited to a big thinker who is up for the challenge of bringing our company’s vision, purpose and products to life into as a disruptive DTC microbiome organization. 

Reporting to our Chief Marketing Officer, our Creative Director will oversee and execute visual brand strategy and designs for Pendulum across all brand touch points including packaging, ecommerce, digital (ads, blogs, email), tradeshows, collateral, print and internal projects.  You will apply a digital-first approach to design to ensure seamless integration across all touchpoints.

What You'll Do:
  • Set a high bar for brand storytelling; own the holistic vision for all marketing campaigns and brand-building experiences to consistently engage our customers, while meeting the business objectives.

About You:
  • Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design or Fine Arts 
  • 8+ years of creative experience with a minimum 4+ years of managerial experience in a design or art department, and 4+ years of relevant consumer brand experience preferred. Design or brand agency experience a plus. 
  • Must have experience launching new brands and/or reinventing a brand from scratch.
  • Deep experience with design and creative for digital channels
  • You possess the energy, enthusiasm and drive to deliver the best design in the industry with a passion for the craft—an advocate for creative excellence.
  • Deeply familiar with the digital design process and adaptable to a range of timeline and feasibility constraints.

Pendulum is seeking an experienced Cloud/DevOps Engineer or Senior Cloud/DevOps Engineer with strong Amazon Web Services experience to work collaboratively with our Software Engineers and Data Scientists to build, test, deploy and monitor cloud and laboratory software services, recommend and implement security and performance best practices, and provide  R&D systems support. Remote work could be considered for the right candidate.

  • Deploy and manage cloud services using AWS and GCP

We are looking for a passionate Diabetes Educator to join our team and help us provide consumer education and consumer support for our product, a Live SynbioticTM medical probiotic that is clinically shown to lower A1C levels and minimize blood sugar spikes.  As part of our product offering, we will be offering 1:1 consultation sessions with customers so they can ask questions about our product and receive general consultation on diabetes and any diet and exercise changes they should make to improve their health outcomes. Reporting to our Chief Marketing Officer, you will help create and manage this program, while also working as a nutrition consultant for our customers.

  • Develop and provide diabetes self-management education and diabetes management recommendations to consumers, who are purchasing our product
  • Monitor client progress and provide feedback and encouragement
  • Review and prepare educational content and activities to help users make lasting behavioral changes and improve their diabetes management

The Manufacturing team is seeking a Fermentation Process Engineer to lead the development and optimization of the company’s microbial fermentation processes for the production of microbiome interventions. You should be well-versed in fermentation science, fermentation equipment, process development/optimization/control, validation testing, and cGMP practices. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a good understanding of microbial physiology, secondary metabolism and biosynthetic pathways. You will take into consideration the scalability of upstream and downstream processes from laboratory scale to commercial scale. We are seeking an energetic, creative, and highly self-motivated team member that enjoys finding solutions for fermentation development and working closely in a team of manufacturing associates and microbiologists as well as cross functionally with the rest of our stellar team!
What You'll Do:
  • Develop scale-down models to optimize pilot-scale fermentation processes, and apply new process technologies and strategies at manufacturing scales under food cGMP guidelines
  • Design and study fermentation experiments to maximize the understanding and performance of strains and meet project goals for yield, productivity, purity specifications, and other process parameters 
  • Conduct transfer of fermentation processes to commercial scale and support initial commercial scale production
  • Optimize fermentation processes and apply new process technologies and strategies at manufacturing scales under food cGMP guidelines
  • Help expand the fermentation group and advise on the design of a new fully functional fermentation facility
  • Collaborate with the operations team and fellow process development scientists to ensure that experiments are designed and executed effectively
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders through meetings and clearly written emails, reports and presentations
  • Be alert and responsible for co-worker’s  and your own safety
  • Build automated solutions to improve fermentation operation workflows under GMP requirements
  • Develop new high throughput plate-based assays to use across a variety of microbes
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed
About You:
  • Demonstrated strong project management, organization, facilitation, problem solving, and quantitative analysis skills 
  • Experience using design of experiment (DoE) methodology for optimization and characterization of fermentation processes
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in up and downstream bioprocess development, and  designing and analyzing fermentation experiments for strain screening and scale-up
  • Experience in operating lab-scale bioreactors and bioprocesses
  • Proficient in physiological and functional strain characterization at bench scale and microtiter-plate scale 
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate technical results and challenges clearly and effectively to colleagues and managers, in written and verbal formats
  • Anaerobic microbial fermentation experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with food or biopharma cGMP manufacturing
  • An outstanding team player with a positive attitude 
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, climb, kneel, bend, and at times lift objects as heavy as 50 lb

We are hiring several Fermentation Technicians to join our Manufacturing team and support Pendulum’s endeavor on our path to commercialization. Reporting to our technical lead of Manufacturing, you will operate large scale fermenters to meet production supplies for clinical trial studies and commercialization. You will work closely with our Manufacturing, Quality, and Compute teams. Our ideal candidate brings previous experience in a bioprocess/biotechnology setting, enjoys working with  precision and brings kindness and passion to their work.
What You'll Do:
  • Weekly setup, running, and tear down of large scale fermentors including monitoring of in-process fermentation, and ensuring batch records are filled out accurately and completely.
  • Weigh out chemicals and prepare medium and/or buffer solutions following detailed instructions.
  • Assist in monitoring of manufacturing inventory and preventative maintenance of process equipment
  • Assist in seed train propagation and downstream processing of fermentors (e.g. centrifugation)
  • Ensure standard operating procedures are followed and reviewed
  • Ensure department is clean and organized at all times and free of hazards and safety violations, maintain areas in high state of inspection preparedness
  • Maintain records and clean room environment to comply with regulatory requirements utilizing current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
About You:
  • AA or BA/BS in a technical field (biotechnology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, microbiology, biochemistry), and 1+ year of experience in an industrial setting
  • Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of the above requirement
  • Familiarity with bench scale fermentation units including those from PALL, Sartorius, DASGIP, Applikon and New Brunswick (Eppendorf)
  • Must be able to occasionally work off hours and weekends
  • Must have attention to detail and strong experience in aseptic techniques.
  • Must communicate with transparency and must be a team player
  • Must be proficient in Google suite and/or Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods at a time
Nice to Have:
  • Experience in cGMP manufacturing environment is a plus
  • Knowledge in SIP, CIP of process equipment is a plus
  • Knowledge of anaerobic microbiological techniques is a plus

Pendulum™ is seeking a Fulfillment and Customer Operations Specialist to join our expanding Marketing team. Reporting to our VP of Growth Marketing, our ideal candidate is detail-oriented and passionate about every facet of the consumer interaction with our product.  He/she/they will be passionate about process optimization, quality, and a consistent consumer experience. This role would be perfect for you if you are customer centric, detail oriented, dedicated, resilient, and a flexible problem solver. 
What You'll Do:
  • Process, package and ship orders to consumers on a daily basis, paying attention to accuracy
  • Organize and maintain on hand inventory of our product and packaging supplies
  • Inspect products for defects and damages
  • Organize packing/shipping space
  • Check and verify customer shipping information and tracking numbers
  • Abide by all product handling instructions, SOP’s and lab/manufacturing regulations
  • Contribute ideas on ways to improve or optimize packing/shipping procedures
  • Provide visibility into any issues with orders as well as any issues with shipping on a timely basis
  • Share metrics and KPIs
  • Partner with marketing, customer service, manufacturing, and R&D to improve processes
  • Evaluate shipping providers and options to improve the overall cost of shipping
  • Work with our Consumer Advocacy Manager to write personal notes to our customers 
About You:
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience, or college degree
  • Experience working in a warehouse, distribution center, or retail packing/shipping  environment, preferred
  • Experience with a start-up is strongly desired
  • You possess a working knowledge of various systems required for order handling, such as Zen Desk, Shopify, and/or shipping provider systems
  • You possess strong prioritization skills and know when to ask for help

Pendulum™ is seeking a Fulfillment and Logistics Associate to join our expanding Marketing team. Reporting to our VP of Growth Marketing, our ideal candidate is detail-oriented and passionate about every facet of the consumer interaction with our product.  He/she/they will be passionate about process optimization, quality, and a consistent consumer experience. This role would be perfect for you if you are customer centric, detail oriented, dedicated, resilient, and a flexible problem solver. 
What You'll Do:
  • Process, package and ship orders to consumers on a daily basis, paying attention to accuracy
  • Organize and maintain on hand inventory of our product and packaging supplies
  • Inspect products for defects and damages
  • Organize packing/shipping space
  • Check and verify customer shipping information and tracking numbers
  • Abide by all product handling instructions, SOP’s and lab/manufacturing regulations
  • Contribute ideas on ways to improve or optimize packing/shipping procedures
  • Provide visibility into any issues with orders as well as any issues with shipping on a timely basis
  • Share metrics and KPIs
  • Partner with marketing, customer service, manufacturing, and R&D to improve processes
  • Evaluate shipping providers and options to improve the overall cost of shipping
  • Work with our Consumer Advocacy Manager to write personal notes to our customers 
About You:
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience, or college degree
  • Experience working in a warehouse, distribution center, or retail packing/shipping  environment, preferred
  • Experience with a start-up is strongly desired
  • You possess a working knowledge of various systems required for order handling, such as Zen Desk, Shopify, and/or shipping provider systems
  • You possess strong prioritization skills and know when to ask for help
  • You are able to lift 25 lb and stand/walk for prolonged periods of time

Pendulum is seeking a Scientist or Senior Scientist to join our Research and Development team. Our new Scientist will contribute to the Pendulum mission through design and execution of experiments, as well as evaluating immunological, neurological, and biochemical impacts of commensal bacteria on the host. Our ideal candidate will have experience in immunology, tissue culturing, anaerobic microbiology, and animal models of metabolic and immune diseases. This position will interact closely with our Clinical and Computational teams. 

What You'll Do:
  • Design, perform and optimize in vitro cellular assays for the advancement of lead microbiological therapeutics and the evaluation of immunological and biochemical hypotheses
  • Evaluate clinical, preclinical, and biochemical data to identify potential microbiome interventions
  • Participate in and direct multiple simultaneous projects, ensuring clear communication of results across teams
  • Present to executive staff and advisory boards

About You:
  • Ph.D. in microbiology, immunology, biochemistry or a related field
  • Expertise in a wide variety of immunological techniques, cell culture, flow cytometry, and biochemistry techniques (e.g., ELISA, western blotting, RT-qPCR) 
  • Familiarity with anaerobic microbiological growth phenotyping assays
  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience in assay development and assay troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with animal models of metabolic syndrome and immunological disease 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, positive attitude, and a desire to learn and tackle new challenges  
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Belief in transparency, collaboration, open communication, and in the ability of one’s own power to improve and enable those around them

Pendulum is looking to hire a Procurement Specialist to join our growing Operations team. Taking guidance from our COO, you will have full ownership of the procurement process and purchasing function at Pendulum. Our ideal candidate has both the experience and positive attitude to excel in this role.
What You'll Do
  • Own the Procurement process of direct and indirect procurement items: lab consumables, wet lab equipment, IT computers, etc
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and ensure cost effectiveness in terms of product quality, pricing and lead time
  • Evaluate and qualify new suppliers and vendors for quality and cost effectiveness; Vendor management
  • Train new Whole Biome employees on Point Purchasing, our PO system
  • Process invoices with accounts payable and assist in reports
  • Coordinate credits, refund and claims as needed
  • Interface with leaders across multiple departments
  • Own the process of creating and modifying POs
  • Oversee the entire procurement process, from requisition to receipt of goods/services, and ensure timely delivery
  • Improve effectiveness of support and services, as they pertain to procurement of goods
About You:
  • Strong communication skills required, both verbal and written
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a customer-service mindset
  • 1-3+ years of experience in procurement/purchasing of direct commodities and biotech capital equipment within a biotech, pharmaceutical, or similar organization, required
  • Self-directed go-getter
  • Familiarity with lab equipment
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with all levels of internal staff and vendors
  • Experience with Point Purchasing, preferred

Medical Marketing Support:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute in a multi-functional fast-paced team environment
